Dimitri Contoyannis has been working on building energy efficiency projects for over 15 years. Through his career he has helped achieve energy savings goals from many perspectives: by implementing innovative strategies in building designs as the project’s mechanical engineer and energy modeler, by analyzing cutting-edge energy efficiency technologies as part of research projects, and by developing advanced simulation software applications.
In his current role, Mr. Contoyannis led an effort in California to transition the state's energy code research, development, and compliance process to be based on simulations using DOE's EnergyPlus engine. He is currently leading a research effort, based on both simulation and real-world data, to develop a strategic plan for California’s energy code to achieve its goal of enforcing zero net energy building designs by 2030.
