Virtual Pro Tour Archive Recording: 1890s Farmhouse to Super Insulated Commercial Space
This interactive event hosted by Garland Mill, featured a deep dive into the conversion of a 1890s farmhouse that has been transformed into a super insulated building providing space for arts and education nonprofits in Littleton, NH. Just like an in-person Pro Tour, this event mixed a presentation with small group conversation, giving participants the chance to meet project team members and one another. This live event took place in November, 2020.
About the Project
Garland Mill was the developer, designer and construction manager of the project. They turned a 130-year-old wood framed building into a commercial building providing space for arts and education nonprofits. Because this building is located in the cold climate of Littleton, NH, special care was given to the envelope, including creating an R-50 roof, and the installation of triple pane windows. This 9000 square foot building now includes a 30 kilowatt array, sub metering with a proprietary app to allow the building owner to manage peak loads, and multi-split heat pumps that allow tenants to manage energy use remotely. During this event, participants will learn about this building’s transformation, including details on construction, carpentry, mechanicals, and renewable energy.
