Reduce, Resize, Rethink: The Optimized Approach for Decarbonized Mechanical Systems

Modern technology in HVAC and plumbing systems has enabled decarbonized building designs that help to break our dependence on fossil fuels. This is creating a built environment that is ready for our progression to a cleaner grid. The drawback? Upfront cost, physical space, electrical service, and power consumption under high load. Several technologies that are available today enable us to also take the next step in optimizing building operation by reducing demand from mechanical systems, and thus, reducing consumption by using less. Join Mark LaFrance at NESEA’s BuildingEnergy Boston to discuss how ventilation requirements can be reduced, providing smaller systems at lower cost, and how after reducing, recovery can be obtained at levels that nearly negates the need for heating – even in our cold climate.
