Positive Energy from Positive Change: Achieving High Performance in Affordable Housing | 02/28/2022 - 2:30pm | BuildingEnergy Boston 2022 |
AIA, CPHC
I am an architect, a Phius Certified Consultant, an urban designer, a civic innovator, an optimist and public-interest architecture proponent. I think of myself as a solutionist, an artist and maker, a weather and woods lover, waste hater, and bicyclist.
I started my architecture career working for Phius (Passive House Institute US) and lived in the first Passive House built in the US. I learned about building science and designing super low energy affordable housing with passive house principles. Living in the house taught me a lot about the passive house design impacts first hand.
I’m committed to designing affordable housing and schools that can be healing and transformative for people’s lives. I love doing projects at many scales - from designing a community engagement experience or a park that lasts for a day (PARK(ing) Day) to buildings and design guidelines and master plans that can positively impact a place for decades to come. Woven throughout these projects is my passion for sustainability by creating comfortable healthy spaces that use less energy and water to reduce our environmental footprint on our planet.
I care about making communities more efficient, both in terms of energy use and incorporating urban design principles to achieve healthy, walkable, enjoyable places. I love transforming ideas and visions into meaningful places that are accessible to all. Everyone deserves great design.
