Maryann Thompson Architects is a Cambridge-based architecture firm that offers a wide range of services to public and private clients. We specialize in sustainable, regionally driven architecture that attempts to heighten the phenomenological qualities of the site in which we work. Our architectural investigations revolve around such concerns as creating a rich and thoughtful edge between inside and outside, utilizing light as a medium, and employing warm, natural materials to accentuate a sense of place. I am an NCARB-certified architect, registered in Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, and a licensed construction supervisor in Massachusetts. I am a member of the NH AIA and the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association. Architects have a social responsibility to lead their clients to create low operational and embodied carbon buildings that provide living spaces free of toxic materials and chemicals. The design of the building envelope and specifications of interior finishes are factors of great importance to me. I have developed building envelope designs that incorporate non-petrochemical products, resulting in passive house standards, healthy environments, and lower embodied carbon buildings.

We will engage you in a discovery process, helping uncover all the needs your building project must fulfill. We take inspiration from the charming historic New England architecture that surrounds us. Using the backdrop of our community, we are equally versed in preserving or adapting historic buildings for new uses as we are designing modern buildings that fit within the community fabric.
