Job Overview:

The Junior Staff Accountant at MassCEC will apply principles of accounting to play a key role in supporting MassCEC’s accounting department. The Junior Staff Accountant will report to the Senior Accountant, will work closely with the Controller and Chief Financial Officer, and will interact with all levels of the organization.

 

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for Accounts Payable process, including organization of operating invoices, related approvals, and payment processing within accounting software;
  • Process grant invoices from award management system for payment in accounting software;
  • Provide guidance to internal and external parties on timing of invoice payments;
  • Monitor shared Finance inbox and respond to inquiries;
  • Process bi-weekly payroll in ADP Workforce system and prepare payroll reconciliation;
  • Prepare bi-weekly retirement contributions;
  • Prepare monthly close reconciliation schedules, including prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, trust investments, and corporate allocations;
  • Input employee expenses, accounts payable transactions, and corporate credit card payments into accounting software;
  • Enter journal entries and maintain workflow in accounting software;
  • Prepare invoices and monitor collections of revenue generated by the Wind Technology Testing Center and the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal;
  • Oversee W-9 collection process and annual 1099 tax upload to IRS;
  • Assist in maintaining accounting system and accounting control procedures;
  • Support budgeting and reforecast process by compiling information for operating expenditures and leading internal meetings;
  • Assist with preparation of audit related schedules and supporting documents;
  • Support Senior Accountant, Controller, and Chief Financial Officer on any special ad hoc projects; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.

Experience:

  • One or more years of relevant experience;
  • Familiarity with accounting systems and data entry;
  • Working knowledge of Accounts Payable process; and
  • Experience processing payroll using ADP Workforce preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, and budgeting principles, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare detailed financial reports, statements, and projections;
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel and accounting systems;
  • Experience working with financial statements, general ledger functions, and month / year end close process;
  • Desire to work in a dynamic and mission-driven environment; and
  • Experience working with Government Accounting Standards (GASB) or non-profit / public sector entities is preferred.
  • Must be able to comply with MassCEC’s Mandatory Covid-19 Vaccination Policy (requiring either full vaccination or the grant of an exemption prior to commencement of employment) developed in response to Executive Order 595 issued by Governor Baker.
