at the 2005 Tour de Sol

May 14-15 at the Saratoga‚s Spring Auto Show & optional May 16 in Albany, NY

We invite you to participate in the 2005 Tour de Sol E-bike, E-scooter, and NEV  events. Josh Kerson of RunAbout Cycles is offering a terrific event that will be lots of fun. The competition for electrically assisted bicycles, stand on scooters, Electrathon vehicles, mini-motorcycles, and neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs) will be based on efficiency and range. Following is a description of what Josh has planned for you.

On Saturday, May 14th, you will have an opportunity to display your electric vehicles at Saratoga‚s Spring Auto Show, with all of the Tour de Sol entrants. This will be an outdoor, 9-5 display day with thousands of people attending. Bike and scooter manufacturers are encouraged to promote their products, give test rides, and demonstrate appropriate forms of transportation that are available to the public today.

Saturday night participants will have an informal electric bike ride around town, including a dinner stop for everyone interested in sharing stories and info. This should be a good networking time. Overnight charging and security is available.

Sunday, May 15th, there will have a riders meeting at 8 am and a time for late registrants to sign up late. From 9-10:30am there will be vehicle inspection. At 11 am, the range event will start. Riders can choose to compete in a one, two, or three-hour range event.

Vehicle Categories: Vehicles may use pedal power, solar panels, batteries, and fuel cells. There will be different categories for different types of vehicles. Bikes must be set up as they would be for normal use. For example, vehicles with exchangeable battery packs will carry a single pack, and exchange that pack during the event ˆ and they will compete against other similarly set-up vehicles. Please, no internal combustion motors. Brakes, speed controllers and helmets are mandatory.

Awards: On Sunday afternoon, at 2:30pm, awards will be presented. There will be approximately 6 Awards for a variety of recognition.

Sunday, May 16th, for those interested in staying through Monday , there will have an opportunity to display vehicles to NYS decision-makers and the public at the Empire State Plaza, Albany, NY with other vehicles and exhibitors participating in the Tour de Sol.

Please register early for best prices. The registration fee is $35 per vehicle for the event. Early registration ends on April 15th. After that time, the registration fee is $50. To take advantage of the early registration fee, funds and a completed registration form must be received by NESEA by April 15.
