The Around Town Vehicle Competition was created in 2004 by RunAbout Cycles to showcase new and fun ways of getting around that are very energy efficient and environmentally-friendly. In 2005 the event expanded to include electric bikes, neighborhood vehicles (NEVs) and electric vehicles built for non-road or track events. Students, hobbiests, entrepreneurs, and electric bike and NEV manufacturers are encouraged to enter.

David Hammond and Paul O'Brien are heading the event this year with expanded guidance for high school teachers and students.

Following is a draft schedule of events:

Friday, May 12 Display at "Student Day" followed by specs check and range event for students
Saturday, May 13

Display at Tour de Sol held at Saratoga's Spring Auto Show for all teams

Afternoon specs check and range event for independent and corpprate teams

Awards for independent and corporate teams

Optional range event for student teams

Sunday, May 14 Awards ceremony and brunch for all teams in the Tour de Sol Championship and student teams in the Around Town Vehicle Competition
