HONDA STAYS IN THE LEAD

Honda stays in the lead as returning Gold Sponsor of the Tour de Sol, and as the only car company with two hybrids on the market!

Honda's new Civic Hybrid, above, will be making its US on-road debut as the official Pace Car of the 2002 Tour de Sol.  Based on the popular Civic, it is expected to be one-third more fuel efficient than its conventional counterpart.

Honda’s new Civic Hybrid, on sale in May, will be making its U.S. on-road debut as the official Pace Car. This five-seat sedan is expected to achieve an EPA rating of 50 miles per gallon, and to be certified as an Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV), an 84 percent reduction in hydrocarbon emissions compared to a typical car. Honda’s participation – its third year as lead corporate sponsor of the Tour de Sol — demonstrates the company’s commitment to develop real-world, market-ready vehicles that continue to reduce the impact of automobiles on the environment.

DaimlerChrysler will bring its concept fuel cell vehicles, the Natrium.  This vehicle features a unique hydrogen storage built by Millennium Cell and a Ballard fuel cell.

DaimlerChrysler will again be joining us as Bronze Sponsor. They will showcase three of their latest green vehicles. They will display their electric neighborhood vehicle, the GEM, which has been selling well over the past few years. In addition they will bring their recently announced fuel cell concept vehicle the Natrium, and a yet to be announced prototype hybrid vehicle. The Natrium minivan features a unique hydrogen storage system produced by Millennium Cell, and a Ballard fuel cell.

Bob Stratton, proud Toyota Prius owner, will join us again to show off his car and share his enthusiasm with the general public.

Toyota and Ford TH!NK Mobility will also join us as bronze sponsors and have exhibits of their wares. In addition, several green vehicle owners will join us with their Toyota Prius, and Honda Insights.

It is tremendously exciting to see, and be able to display a larger number of green vehicles that are on the market, as well as have the opportunity to showcase concepts of future green transportation technologies such as hydrogen vehicles and fuel cells. Please watch our web site for additional vehicles being brought to the event by auto, bus, and motorcycle companies!
