Our largest sponsor has been Eugene Lemieux of Valley Forge's Eastern Electric Vehicle Club. The car is a strong performer with a second and two forth place finishes in three years. |

This year marks the third appearance of the Solar Black Bear in the Solar Commuter Category, defending its two consecutive first place finishes. The team has implemented a completely new solar array, a larger battery, and made changes to the weight distribution to increase overall handling. The Black Bear is now even more practical in everyday use. |

The West Philly Team is back for its second year. Its hybrid electric Jeep is equipped with a 36HP MTS brushless DC motor getting power from 28 Deka DC24 batteries (336 volts). The students built their own generator with a Linamar 14HP propane motor and a high efficiency 14HP MTS brushless DC motor. Michelin has provided their low rolling resistance tires. |

Sungo was built and has been continuously improved by the New Hampshire Technical Institute's Sustainable Energy Ventures Club. The two-seat, purpose-built electric vehicle can reach over 90 mph, and has placed first at the Tour several times. It uses 14 Ovonic nickel metal hydride batteries and two 28 Hp AC motors. Eight years ago the club installed a 1000w solar array on their school to charge the EVs. Further modifications include: machining of one piece front brake rotors, a battery voltage checker (it can check the charge of all 14 batteries individually all at one time) called batta port (this was hand made by a student at NHTI), and rewiring of the batteries. |
