Business description: ACT Bioenergy, LLC manufactures high-efficiency commercial-scale wood pellet/wood chip boilers systems. The boilers are fully automated and incorporate state-of-the-art control systems to achieve up to 90 percent efficiency and exceptionally low emissions.

How do you define sustainability?
"Do unto future generations as you would have them do onto you." Robert Gillman

What project are you most proud of?
Our first project, a 500,000 Btu wood pellet boiler at Clarkson University, Potsdam, New York,  documenting that our emissions are at the same level as oil or gas boilers. This is 15 to 20 times lower than conventional large wood boilers.

What energy advice do you have for the new president?
Target increasing efficiency and encourage renewable energy in buildings. Commercial and residential buildings account for 39 percent total energy usage in the United States, more than either industry or transportation. Heating and cooling of space and water consume about half of that total. Wood energy costs are typically 50 percent lower than oil or propane per unit of heat, so a wood system can pay for itself in as little as two years.

What promising technology would you like to know more about?
Biodiesel from algae.

What prompted you to join NESEA?
To be allied with similar companies to increase public awareness and change
the energy future.
