Business description: New York City-based altPOWER is a full service renewable energy systems integrator providing turnkey systems to all sectors of the economy. We specialize in urban projects and we are internationally recognized as a building integrated PV system provider.

How do you define sustainability?
Development that considers protecting, completely, the health of ecosystems while working economically as well.

What project are you most proud of?
Probably the Solaire, as it was the first building built in lower Manhattan after the 9/11 attacks. It really pushed the limits with regard to Building Integrated PV systems. But we are also very proud of our recent 205 kW installation for SunPower at the DOE Headquarters in Washington DC, our 66 kW installation at Rockefeller Center which offsets the Christmas Tree carbon dioxide. Plus, this January we commissioned the Riverhouse at Rockefeller Park, a 44 kW BIPV system that is the nation's first tracking facade system. It's located at the 36th, 37th and 38th floors of the new condominium tower near the World Trade Center site. The building's appearance will actually change throughout the day.

What energy advice do you have for the new president?
Push energy efficiency!

What promising technology would you like to know more about?
Tidal power.

What's the public's biggest misunderstanding regarding sustainable energy systems?
People should understand that clean energy is more valuable than power from polluting sources -- it should cost something to dump in the atmosphere!

What prompted you to join NESEA?
To be involved with my colleagues in the region.

What's the most irritating example of "greenwashing" you can think of?
Calling any automobile green!
