How do you define sustainability?
Engaging in practices that do not take more natural resources than they offset.
What project are you most proud of?
The house that I built in Colrain, MA, on a limited budget.
What energy advice do you have for President Obama?
Focus on proven technologies first and provide the help to lower the installation costs and provide more new jobs.
What promising technology would you like to know more about?
Hydrogen fuel cells.
What's the public's biggest misunderstanding regarding sustainable energy systems?
That they are too costly.
What prompted you to join NESEA?
I worked for NESEA for 7 years, and I had a home on the "Green Buildings Open House."
What's the most irritating example of "greenwashing" you can think of?
People who put solar PV panels on poorly insulated homes.
Parting shot ...
I would like to see more people focusing on the "low-hanging fruit" when it comes to sustainability. Buying locally, sealing up their drafty homes, driving less when possible.
