Wind Wisdom for School Power Naturally, NYC

The Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA) in collaboration with Solar One is facilitating Wind Wisdom for School Power Naturally, a free professional development workshop for formal and non-formal educators on Thursday, April 16 at Solar One from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m.

Wind Wisdom for School Power Naturally offers a hands-on introduction to the technology and engineering involved in renewable wind energy and provides a context for teaching scientific principles related to properties of the wind, energy transformations and electricity.
This workshop is suitable for teachers who work with grades K-6. At this workshop educators will receive:

  • engaging, hands-on science and engineering activities that support New York State Learning Standards and Core Curriculum, addressing specific performance indicators, and enrich existing scholastic programming;
  • a free Wind Energy Education Kit;
  • curricular units Wind Wisdom for School Power Naturally (two units), grades K-4 and 5-6.

Directions: 24-20 FDR Drive Service Road East, NY, NY 10010

Local Directions: From FDR Drive South: Exit the FDR at the 23rd street exit. Make a left at the light at the end of the off ramp. You will see a Gulf Gas station, we are directly south of that gas station. At the 2nd light you can either turn into the gas station, or make a right turn onto the service road. Pull onto our blacktop for parking. (DO NOT PARK UNDER FDR, YOU WILL GET TOWED!)
From FDR Drive North: Take the 23rd street exit, Make a right turn at the stop sign. Follow to the 2nd light. You will see the Gulf Gas station on your right. Pull to the right and make a sharp turn onto the service road. From anywhere else: Take 23rd street east bound until you hit the East River. Make a right on the service road.
Public Transit Directions: Take the 6 train to 23d street and walk East, or take the M23 bus crosstown. (it lets you off across the street) You can also take the L train to 1st Avenue and walk North on 1st until you reach 23rd and then turn right.
