Clean Energy for a Clean Environment, Pittsfield, MA

Come learn about renewable energy projects you can do with students on Thursday, April 1, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00pm at the Reid Middle School in Pittsfield, MA.

Clean Energy for a Clean Environment (CECE) is an engaging program that allows educators and students alike to learn about energy efficiency and safe renewable energy choices and to take actions through hands-on, community-based learning projects.  CECE provides engaging inquiry that is solutions-minded and interesting, empowering participants to take steps toward sustainable and healthy living practices and become agents of positive change.Both curricular units of CECE, Clean Green Power and Wind Wisdom are aligned to fit the Massachusetts State Frameworks in science and technology/engineering.

The CECE Educator Training Workshop is FREE and open to teachers, non-formal educators, scout leaders, community mentors, and other youth group leaders within the service territory of the Western Massachusetts Electric Company. At the workshop you'll receive:
·    An overview of the CECE program and how to facilitate it;
·    Hands-on learning experiences with renewable energy in action;
·    Curricular units Clean Green Power and Wind Wisdom.

A summary of the programs covered at this workshop:

Clean Green Power: K-12 youth learn about renewable energy and conservation; interview clean energy heroes and heroines, and visit a site where clean energy is used if possible. Then they take  personal action and spread the word with a project of their own choice. All kids can earn beautiful patches & certificates for their work, and there are special patches for Girl Scouts.

Wind Wisdom:  Youth ages 10 and up learn the basics about wind energy by carrying out some or all of eight multifaceted activities. Certificates are available for completing four or more activities, and there is a special patch for Girl Scouts.

Junior Solar Sprint: Middle school students design and build model solar electric cars and then have the opportunity to compete in a network of area events  for design and speed awards. Top teams from northeastern US area events are invited to an annual Championship to be held this year on Sunday, June 13, 2010.
