Solar &Wind in the Classroom Teacher Workshop

The Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA) is facilitating "A Solar Kit for the Classroom" and "Wind Wisdom", a free professional development dual workshop for formal and non-formal educators on solar and wind energy education at Robert C Parker School  in Wynantskill, NY from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Become familiar with solar and wind energy concepts. Test out the experiments and give your students the tools they need to understand solar and wind technologies. This workshop is suitable for teachers who work in grades K-8 with the majority focus on 3-6 grades. Solar energy lessons support NYSERDA's School Power...Naturally 15 Solar Kit lessons and curricular unit Wind Wisdom for School Power...Naturally found at www.powernaturally.org.

At the workshop educators will receive:

·    engaging, hands-on science and engineering activities that support NYS Learning Standards and Core Curriculum, addressing specific performance indicators;

·    a free Deluxe Solar Energy Education Kit with accompanying lessons;

·    a free basic Wind Energy Education Kit with accompanying curricular unit.

Please bring your own bag lunch. OR, there is a plaza about one mile south from the intersection of NY Rt 43 and Rt 4 (which is 2.5 miles from school) that has food options.

NYSERDA and New West Technologies, announce an exciting wind energy contest that teachers can conduct with their class or offer as an extracurricular activity!

Middle- and high-school students are invited to participate in the New York State Virtual Wind Contest to design the most efficient virtual wind farm. The contest is scheduled to commence in January with an entry deadline of February 24, 2010.
Wind education-focused awards will be given to the class that submits the best entry.
