Build a Model Solar Car Educator Workshop, NYC

Solar One, in collaboration with NESEA is offering a Junior Solar Sprint educator training workshop on Wednesday, August 18 at Solar One in Manhattan from 9:30am - 12:30pm. This workshop is designed to prepare teachers and non-formal educators in leading middle school kids through Junior Solar Sprint, a highly engaging and successful program where kids design, build and compete with model solar electric cars. Your young engineers will deepen their understanding about solar energy, math, physical science and craftsmanship. Teams can enter their cars in local design and race competitions with top winners invited to NESEA's annual northeast championship. At the workshop you will receive:

•    A basic parts model solar car kit and hands-on building practice
•    JSS educator resources including lesson plans and area event information
•    A chance at door prizes including a model car solar panel
•    Professional development points/credits for hours attending workshop

Directions: 24-20 FDR Drive Service Road East, NY, NY 10010

Local Directions: From FDR Drive South: Exit the FDR at the 23rd street exit. Make a left at the light at the end of the off ramp. You will see a Gulf Gas station, we are directly south of that gas station. At the 2nd light you can either turn into the gas station, or make a right turn onto the service road. Pull onto our blacktop for parking. (DO NOT PARK UNDER FDR, YOU WILL GET TOWED!)
From FDR Drive North: Take the 23rd street exit, Make a right turn at the stop sign. Follow to the 2nd light. You will see the Gulf Gas station on your right. Pull to the right and make a sharp turn onto the service road. From anywhere else: Take 23rd street east bound until you hit the East River. Make a right on the service road.
Public Transit Directions: Take the 6 train to 23d street and walk East, or take the M23 bus crosstown. (it lets you off across the street) You can also take the L train to 1st Avenue and walk North on 1st until you reach 23rd and then turn right.
