About our Workshops:

Workshops are designed to help prepare participants for a successful experience in leading middle school kids through Junior Solar Sprint, where middle school kids design, build and compete with model solar electric cars. Over 15,000 teachers and over 100,000 students are estimated to have participated in this exciting and highly engaging program since it began in the early 1990's. Workshops are FREE of charge to teachers and youth mentors, thanks to funding from the U.S. Army and materials from Pitsco.

At a JSS Workshop, Educators and Youth Leaders:

  • Learn how to lead students to design, build, and race model cars powered by solar energy.
  • Build a model sprint car and review lesson plans that will help students do the same.
  • Receive tips, lesson plans and curriculum resources to engage students in engineering design, teamwork, craftsmanship, problem solving, and studies of carbon cycle, global warming, fossil fuel issues, solar energy, simple machines, transportation technology, renewable energy and more.

Most workshops are offered FREE of charge unless connected with a conference. Registration prior to the workshop is required. Also, you will have a chance to win the door prize -- a Free JSS solar panel!

Note: The Montshire Museum workshop for Sat. April 26, 2008 has been cancelled. It will be held Sat. Oct 18, 2008, as part of our Fall 2008 workshop season, which will better enable participants to plan for their Spring 2009 Junior Solar Sprint programs.
