Description of site:
My husband planned the solar house when it was built. We have passive solar from the 7 windows on the south side. On our roof we have solar panels to provide active solar heat which enter the home through ducts and is controlled by a thermostat. The angle of the sun determines the seasonal heat. The southern section of the roof overhangs to protect the home from heat in the summer.
Availability for visits:
A sunny day from February to May.
Considerations and opportunities noted by host:
This is a very safe and beautiful area with a view of the ocean and light house. Fort Taber and East Beach are both within walking distance. Davy’s Locker serves fresh fish and other choice from the docks for lunch. The Whaling museum is right off of Route 18 in New Bedford going North. The downtown area is near by as well.
To arrange a visit and interview:

Description of site:
New England Energy Services, CNBE: We are a power generating facility that uses gas made by the breakdown of trash. This gas called methane is a greenhouse gas meaning it adds to global warming. We generate enough power to run over 3,000 homes and in the process we eliminate the methane that could otherwise go to the atmosphere.
Availability for visits:
We would like 2 weeks notice for site tours and we are available anytime with appointment.
Considerations and opportunities noted by host:
We will provide a presentation, question & answer session, refreshments, and a tour of our facility. There are fast food restaurants within 3 miles from our facility. A few good websites to look at: http://www.epa.gov/lmop/benifits.htm, http://www.tvakids.com/electricity/landfill.htm
