General Information: YMCA Camp Bernie uses its solar panels for educational purposes. The panels are a part of its Learning from Light program. This program is used in the Environmental Education curriculum with school groups and campers. Learning from Light combines traditional solar panels with an energy-management software system by way of the Internet to demonstrate how electricity is generated and used, and how outside factors influence the production of solar generated electrical energy. This program demonstrates that solar energy is feasible, and serves as a teaching instrument for our students, campers, their parents and teachers. YMCA Camp Bernie as an exemplary forty year history of being a leader and innovator in environmental education programming, educating hundreds of thousands of students and campers on the importance of protecting our precious natural resources, and how their actions affect the environment.
