Bruce Mau. Plenary Speaker. Tuesday, March 15, 2005
About Massive Change Building Energy begins with a plenary presentation by the iconoclastic international designer Bruce Mau. His current project Massive Change is about the power and promise of design. It is a bold recognition of our capacity to consider the welfare of all life on a planetary scale as a practical objective. The project features people and projects actively and productively engaged in that endeavor. It encourages us to imagine our shared capacity. It is about what design makes possible. We Are The Message This message is aimed squarely at the multi-disciplinary audience that will be assembled for the conference. It is an invitation to each of us to recognize the necessity of a distributed, plural, and collaborative approach to the work at hand. It inspires us to consider a networked practice of sustainability. It Lives In Our Theme His presentation inaugurates the theme of Building Energy: The Practice of Sustainability: Art/Science/Business by recognizing that advanced design today is characterized by distributed problem solving and team based multi-disciplinary practice. This practice demands the full application of these three capacities. The projects at work in Massive Change demonstrate this: the future of global design is fundamentally collaborative. Practice And The Studio Massive Change is a project initiated by Bruce Mau Design Inc. and the Institute Without Boundaries, a post graduate program they developed with the School of Design at George Brown -Toronto City College that immerses an interdisciplinary group of students in a very public project within the studio at a demanding scale. Following the plenary, Bruce will stay on to participate in a session about his own studio practice, the IWB, and the ground that nurtures collaboration.Learn More Each of the websites listed here is well worth a visit and exploration.Massive Change Be sure to find the Radio Archives.
